the daily drip
For my capstone project, I was hired to design a coffee shop called The Daily Drip, located in downtown Athens, GA. It is a great place to socialize with friends or get work done. Jamie started the business with her husband, Logan, five years ago. They share their love for coffee together and wanted to extend that love to the community of Athens. With a designated space for a pop-up market, artists are able to come in for a day and sell their work to customers. The Daily Drip will feature a designated space for artist pop-up markets, a private meeting room that can be reserved, a roasting room and various types of seating.

Concept Statement
The design of this coffee shop will have a modern design approach to reflect the roastery’s views. This will be obtained through the use of natural materials, clean lines, and a minimalistic approach. The use of wood and hard stone materials creates a natural tone, while colorful textiles and wall accents create contrast and texture that reflect back to the artistic nature of the city. The organic forms of the café seating invite customers to explore the bright and welcoming space and attract them to view the process of coffee roasting.
Athens is not only 60 miles away from the capital, Atlanta, but also home for the University of Georgia, which enrolls over 37,000 students. Athens is ranked one of the most artistic cities in Georgia. With the bustling downtown, college nearby, and the love for the arts, Athens is the perfect location for The Daily Drip. It will cater to anyone looking for a great cup of coffee, college students coming to work on homework, and local artists and small business owners showcasing and selling their work.
Sustainable Goals
WELL A03 Ventilation Design: With the installation of proper HVAC through at least 90% of the building and the use of windows and a garage door, the roasting room ensures the health and safety of workers from not being exposed to chemicals and oils given off during the roasting process.
WELL N02 Nutritional Transparency: Nutritional information, calorie and sugar content will be clearly labeled on each product.
WELL L05 Daylight Design Strategies: Glass windows allows for the space to have plenty of daylight to limit the amount of energy consumption used during the day.
WELL L07 Visual Balance: Proper light operation schedules allows for necessary amounts of light throughout the day for patrons to perform tasks.
WELL S05 Sound Reducing Surfaces: The use of acoustical blades and vinyl flooring in the roasting room help to absorb the sound from the machines.
